The HR Business Partner Operating Model: From Admin to Advisor

The HR Business Partner Operating Model: From Admin to Advisor

Most HR teams are still measured on transactions - letters issued, files closed, positions filled - while the business asks for commercial judgement. This opening session sets out what the HR Business Partner model actually is, the four-box Ulrich structure it grew from, and the specific behaviours that separate an HRBP from a senior HR generalist.

  • By the end of the program, participants will be able to:

    • Explain the HRBP operating model and how it differs from a traditional HR generalist structure
    • Map the four HR delivery roles (HRBP, Centre of Excellence, Shared Services, HR Leadership) onto your own organisation
    • Identify the three commercial questions an HRBP must be able to answer about their business unit
    • Diagnose your current HRBP maturity using a simple four-stage self-assessment

This program is organized by the Academy of Professionals Malaysia (APM).

Features:

  • Why the HR service model changed: cost, capability and credibility pressures (8 min)
  • The four-box model explained with a Malaysian mid-size company example (12 min)
  • The HRBP capability stack: business acumen, data literacy, consulting, courage (12 min)
  • Live self-assessment: where does your HR function sit today? (13 min)
  • Building your 90-day HRBP transition plan + Q&A (15 min)
    • A one-page HRBP maturity self-assessment you can run with your HR team
    • The 'three commercial questions' checklist to take into your next business review
